Teen Idle is the Asbury Park-based project of Egyptian-American songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Sara Abdelbarry whose cinematic approach to rock music has already earned recognition from Rolling Stone, GQ , and Under the Radar. Combining the grit
of bands like Wolf Alice with the tenderness of the likes
of Jeff Buckley, Teen Idle crafts heartfelt songs rooted
in emotional honesty and literary storytelling.

A graduate in English literature and the daughter of Egyptian immigrants, Sara Abdelbarry wields both the emotional intensity of Arabic music and a novelist’s eye for detail as tools in her songwriting arsenal to explore heartbreak, identity, longing, and transformation.
Every Teen Idle is cinematic in nature — but it
feels less like a performance and more like stepping
into the real world.
